Roe v Wade is done. Aug 2 is coming.

Now that the US Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, and despite the Executive Order that President Biden signed on July 8, it is even more important that KS voters defeat the August 2 ballot amendment. This amendment would prevent Kansans from making personal health care decisions, including those about abortion.

How you can help:
  • Sign postcards - we have one more opportunity to help write postcards encouraging voters to Vote No. Join us tomorrow, July 13, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the Lenexa City Center Library
  • Encourage your friends and family to Vote No
  • Volunteer with the Kansans for Constitutional Freedom - they have phone bank and canvass opportunities available here.

August 2nd is just around the corner. Please note these important dates.
  • TODAY is the LAST DAY to register to vote. If you know of anyone who hasn't registered yet, send them to vote411.org immediately!
  • Tomorrow is the first day of advance in-person voting, and the first day advance by mail ballots are mailed
  • July 26 is the last day to apply for an advance by mail ballot
  • August 1 - advance in person voting ends at noon
  • August 2 - Primary Election Day

Souls to the Polls rides again

The Souls to the Polls Car Caravan cruised through three Wards and Precincts this past Saturday, July 9 - just ahead of the July 12 deadline to register for the August 2 Primary. The three wards selected, which have a combined 3,267 voters, have a large number of registered voters but a lower voter turnout. Car Caravans were used in order to be respectful of COVID protocols while still positively impacting a large number of voters.

Souls to the Polls, begun in KC in 2019 by Dr. Elizabeth Ann Sanders, is a non-partisan coalition of citizens designed to increase voter turnout. Special thanks are extended to all participants and to the KCK Police Department, KCK Motorcycle policemen, the Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) Campus Police and the KCKCC Event Department.

The next Caravan will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Mark your calendars!

Yesterday, July 11, was World Population Day, a day to focus the world's attention on population issues. In 1968, family planning was affirmed to be a human right at the first International Conference on Human Rights, held in Tehran. The Proclamation of Tehran and Resolution XVIII affirmed the basic rights of parents to determine freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children...and a right to adequate education and information in this respect. The Conference was not specifically addressing abortion of dangerous or unwanted pregnancies through family planning. If you didn't get a chance to yesterday, read the Proclamation (see #16) and Resolution here.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ President Biden's Executive Order on abortion
On Friday, 7/8, President Biden signed an Executive Order in an attempt to safeguard abortion rights. The order seeks to preserve access to abortion care and contraceptives, protect patient privacy and establish an interagency task force to use "every federal tool available to protect access to reproductive healthcare." This order is a step forward, but it leaves the development of concrete actions to Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. It also does not re-instate access where states have ruled otherwise. Read more at CNN and Vox.
