A New Year is beginning for each of us individually and all of us together. Millions of people start the month of January by making a “New Year’s Resolution”; that is, setting a goal(s) to do something during this year which has just begun. But to achieve that resolution, one must do some planning.

Our League is also starting out this New Year with our resolution for what we want to do during this year. Our Saturday January 11 meeting is not our normal/usual meeting with a program featuring speakers or a panel discussion. Rather, it is a SPECIAL meeting where ALL OUR MEMBERS come together and DISCUSS WITH EACH OTHER where we want to be going this year, what we want to LEARN MORE ABOUT in order to better inform ourselves and our fellow Kansas voters, what we want to DO AND ACCOMPLISH this year (and maybe into the next couple years), and how we PLAN to do this.

ALL OUR MEMBERS --- yes, this means that you really need to be at this meeting, because it is that important for our League. This meeting is the BLASTOFF, the CRUCIAL PLAN, the IMPETUS for the rest of this year. If you cannot attend, maybe give your thoughts, your preferences, your opinions, your commitments to someone who is coming to the meeting so that they can convey to other members what you told them. If you need a ride to/from the meeting, send an email to Membership@lwvjoco.org with your name and home address and phone number so arrangements can be made.

DISCUSS WITH EACH OTHER – there will be multiple opportunities in this meeting for you to meet in different small groups with your fellow members to discuss the important topics of this meeting.

LEARN MORE ABOUT – one main purpose of this meeting is for you to suggest what PROGRAMS you want to have presented from April 2025 to February 2026. Those programs which get the most support will likely be the programs which the Vice Presidents will try to feature at our upcoming regular monthly meetings. What do you want to know more about, and what do you think Kansas voters need to know more about, to be INFORMED voters?

DO AND ACCOMPLISH – the way things get done in our League both internally and externally is through our important teams/committees. You are the DOERS. You will have a chance to visit with each of our teams (e.g., Voter Registration, Voter Information, Communications, etc.) to learn more about each one and see which one(s) you want to join to make things happen. You’ll have a card which you can carry from table to table to have that team sign/mark your card. If you get a sign/mark from all the teams, you will be entered into a drawing where you can win one of the exciting PRIZES to be awarded!!

PLAN – LWVJoCo has a 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, and we are now approximately halfway through the implementation timeline for that plan. During this meeting, we will be taking stock of where we are (what we have accomplished, what we still need to accomplish), and we will be planning what important things we want to do and how to do them, most especially here in 2025 (but also to 2027).

Happy New Year, and it’s time to step up and get busy!!

Presidential Leadership Team (Harry Bognich, Ruth Cain, Mary Estrada)

BOARD AND TEAM UPDATES

From Our Board: LWVUS Update

The final steps in the transition to the new system for processing new and renewal memberships in the League of Women Voters is slated to begin in January 2025.  The LWVUS office will assume responsibility for enrolling members and collecting the membership fees through a new portal, ChapterSpot.

In the next few weeks, you will receive an email from ChapterSpot asking you to log in to the portal for the first time.
  • You are not being asked to renew or pay dues at this time.
  • Your membership will continue to renew during the month you initially joined the LWVJoCo.
  • Simply log in as instructed in the email and complete your member information.
  • It is important that you log in to the portal and complete the form to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information about your membership.
  • The information you provide will also help the League more broadly to understand who we are as an organization.
If you have not received an invitation to log in to ChapterSpot by February 7, please check your spam folder or contact the national office at membership@lwv.org

If you have specific questions concerning your membership, please contact membership@lwvjoco.org.

Thank you for your assistance in completing this transition.

Respectfully,
The Board of the LWVJoCo
