Subject: Tax Day Protest with the Activism Coordinating Team!
From: LWV of Johnson County

JoCo League logo

Hello League members!

Our first LWV protest was such a success, we are going to protest again (and again and again...more on those dates later)!

Here are the details for next week's event:

DATE:  Tuesday, April 15
TIME:  10:45 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION:  On the sidewalks of the corner of 135th Street and MurLen Road in Olathe
PARKING:   In the empty Hobby Lobby parking lot -NE Corner of the intersection

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:
  • We know your time is valuable.  We'd love to have you be there the entire time, but we will welcome your participation for however much time you can be there!
  • When you arrive, look for the Blue Subaru and White Prius in the parking lot with the hatchbacks open.  This is where you will sign in and get your sign(s) that you will hold.
  • Please dress for the weather...you might consider bringing a water bottle, snack, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat and even a chair.
  •  Per the First Amendment, we have the right to speak out and assemble on public property.  That being said, we can't block a sidewalk to prevent anyone from getting by.  Because we are a non-violent group, should someone try to counter protest right next to us, we will just move away and not engage in any conversations with the person(s).  If we need more help than just moving away and ignoring, we will leave the area.  The police will know that we are going to be there, and they will be contacted if we need their assistance.
 AS FOR FUTURE PROTESTS:
We are planning on scheduling two (2) protests a month. The Activism Team will be meeting to set a tentative calendar for the next three (3) months. Please be watching your email for the details.

WE HAVE OUR OWN EMAIL (ACT@lwvjoco.org) FOR QUESTIONS, COMMENTS AND ATTENDANCE RSVPS!

Please let us know if you will be attending the April 15 Protest by contacting us at this email:  ACT@lwvjoco.org.  (We have the list from last Saturday’s meeting so if you signed up then, you do not need to sign up again)

A giant thank you to all of you for your support and patience as we work to get these activism events going forward to protest FOR our League's goals of "Empowering Voters" and "Defending Democracy" at this crucial time in our lives.
