Where she’s from
Robyn was born in Wisconsin and spent her childhood in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Pittsburg, Kansas. After graduating from the University of Kansas, she moved to Kansas City, where she attended the Kansas University School of Medicine. Following graduation she completed a residency in Radiation Oncology and practiced in the Kansas City area for 35 years, retiring in 2019.
About her family
Robyn and her husband Kelly are parents of a daughter in Durham, North Carolina and a son in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are grandparents to a 16 month old grandson. Her husband, Kelly, is a radiologist at the VA Hospital in Leavenworth.
Why she joined the League
Robyn joined the League in 2016. At that time, she turned to the League for information about the election and the candidates. She was pleased and impressed with the information they provided and became a member.
What she thinks the League does well
In Robyn’s estimation the monthly programs are one of the strongest aspects of the League’s work. The speakers are excellent and well informed. She appreciates the well-researched position statements, which not only inform the public but also attract knowledgeable, intelligent people as members. The position statements on Housing, Natural Resources, Water, Local Government and Education are impressive and have added to the public discourse in our area.
Where she would like to see the League focus in the future
LWVJoCo’s position statements should in Robyn’s opinion play a more prominent role in community discussion of the issues. The Speaker’s Bureau should be promoted to provide even more public information and exposure for the League’s work.
What she does to strengthen our democracy
In addition to serving as a poll worker, Robyn is co-chair of the LWVJoCo Voter Registration program. In this time of COVID-19, Robyn and her co-chair Deb Scott were extremely creative in their efforts to reach out to potential voters. Not only were several registration events held outdoors, but digital materials were distributed to local high schools as well as senior living centers in the area.
Posters and fliers were distributed to students at KCK Junior College and JoCo Community College.
A grant from the Kansas LWV was used to produce fliers, postcards and door hangers which were distributed statewide. Coordinating with the Kansas State League, the Voter Registration program distributed 15,000 postcards and 6000 door hangers (!!!) in both Spanish and English to the local leagues across the state.

Robyn is on a quest to sew all of her own clothes, just don’t look too closely!
