In partnership with the Johnson County Library, we hosts these popular events. Team members plan with the library, set up the event, moderate the attendees' questions to the legislators, provide time keeping and clean up after the event. Some of these activities are not necessary with virtual coffees. Over the coming year we expect to move to more in-person coffees from virtual coffees. Time Commitment Coffees normally occur in the spring of the legislative session. There can be 4-6 coffees over a number of Saturday mornings.

We co-hosts non-partisan forums. Forums have the same planning and format. *) In weekly conferences, the Mainstream Coalition and the league work out the dates, order, the practice agenda and the rules for the nonpartisan forums. They contacted possible partners in the month prior to contacting the candidates. They collect possible questions for the candidates. *) Weeks ahead of the actual date, the essential information is presented in electronic invitation letters to the candidates. Follow-up email invitations are sent, and then a phone call is made if a candidate has still not responded. *) Work with our partners in the forum to finalize the event. *) We hold the event. Time Commitment For each forum, approximately 20 hours are spent from beginning to end. Most of the work would occur after the primary and before the election.

Voter to Voter is a get-out-the-vote-effort based on relational politics, getting people you know to the polls. *) Ambassadors look up people they know (family, friends, neighbors, co-workers) in a voter database to determine those who are infrequent voters. *) Ambassadors then provide voting information and encourage follow up as needed to assist infrequent voters in voting. *) Ambassadors are trained in use of the database and online tool, receive regular communications with voting information and motivation tips, and are supported through weekly Zoom meetings, Facebook posts, and website updates. Time Commitment The bulk of the work is done the two to three months before the primary through the general election to get new voters registered and registered voters to vote. Volunteers spend as much time as they wish identifying, helping and encouraging their network of voters.

League of Women Voters US provides this powerful online tool to allow voters to learn about and compare candidates specific to their voting precinct. LWVJoCo set up two teams of volunteers to contact the candidates. There is a lead for Johnson County and Wyandotte County. Each team collects the email contact information of the candidates from the Election Office, candidate websites, texts, and Facebook Personal Messenger. The team writes and submits questions for the candidates to post on Vote411.org. Our volunteers work to get participation from all candidates for local and state offices in Johnson and Wyandotte counties. In Johnson County for the primary and general election. Time Commitment Activity starts after June 1st and ends a few weeks before the general. A team of volunteers work together for 10 to 20 hours each over the course of the election.
